TRANS TELEPHONIC MONITORING
Trans Telephonic Monitoring (TTM)

Trans Telephonic Monitoring (TTM) is the process of submitting ECG strip information by using the telephone. Patients are provided with a small monitor which they wear for a monitoring period of 1-3 weeks. When they experience an "event" (fatigue, palpitation or other signs of an event) they press a butting on the monitor which results in the capture of ECG information prior and post the event.

This technology improves upon traditional Holter monitoring since it is event driven and aids in the successful diagnosis of infrequent symptoms which occur in developing or underlying heart condition(s).

Introduction

TTM (trans-telephonic monitoring) uses a small heart monitor that the patient wears until they have a predefined symptom. The monitor records and stores in memory pre and post events. A total of 60 seconds are stored in the memory and then transmitted via a toll free number to MSO. A receiving station which is open 24 hours, 7 days a week is staffed with bilingual technicians. The ECG strips are then sent to the referring physician via fax and regular mail for interpretation.

TTM's role in patient care

It is a known fact that heart disease is the number one killer in America. Most of the deaths are related to ventricular arrhythmia or coronary artery disease with silent ischemia. Many of the persons afflicted are relatively young with no prior symptom or premonition of heart disease. The changing climate of health care in recent years, with the growing emphasis on cost containment is forcing healthcare professions to look for alternative means of health care delivery.

For these reasons, the use of the TTM for the diagnostic evaluation and management of a great number of patients with suspected or documented cardiac problems can be justifiably regarded as an alternative to meeting the socioeconomic and the medical challenges.

Reducing Cost of Care

By using the service, healthcare professionals generate a savings that is the result of:

  • Pre-screening the patient at the primary level, thus avoiding referrals to specialists and hospital admissions.
  • Reduced equipment spending; Physician is provided with all necessary equipment on a free loan basis - no need for purchasing or long term lease agreements.
  • Reduced hospital and ER admissions (diagnose on time; reduce ER spending for cardiac patients).
