Using TTM (Cardiac Event Monitoring) in patients with
Palpitations
Cardiac Event Recorders Yield More Diagnoses and Are
More Cost-effective than 48-Hour Holter Monitoring in
Patients with Palpitations; Annals of Internal
Medicine 1 January 1996. 124:16-20.
TTM has an edge over Holter monitoring in many
patients because of paroxysmal and infrequent nature of
symptoms. It reduces patient - physician contact time.
The time to institute specific therapy is also reduced
and this is of great value, especially in acute
myocardial infarction or malignant arrhythmias.
In case of insignificant changes, unnecessary
hospitalization and expenditure can be avoided. Hospital
stay of patient is reduced after AMI, PCI and CABG,
since TTM can help in managing the symptomatic or
asymptomatic ectopics or arrhythmias. Patients on
anti-arrhythmic drugs while working on duty or at home
can be assessed through TTM for any change in rate of
rhythm, ischemia, or conduction defect. The information,
after comparing with previous data, can be analyzed.
Drug dosage can be adjusted, or otherwise, patient can
be advised.
