Operating RESPeRATE Questions & Answers

Q: How do I change the volume on the device?
A: To adjust the volume on your device, simply press the UP or DOWN arrow button on the device’s keypad. The volume icon is displayed on the device's screen, along with the current volume level. Continue pressing the button until you reach your preferred volume. After a few seconds, RESPeRATE automatically returns to the previous display.

Q: How do I change the melody on the device?
A: To select a melody, simply press the MELODY SELECT button. The melody icon is displayed on the device's screen, along with the current melody number. Use the UP or DOWN button to scroll between melodies. For your convenience, RESPeRATE remembers your most recent melody choice.

Q: How do I know where to position the sensor and sensor belt?
A: You should position the sensor belt around either your abdomen or your chest, depending on where your breathing belt is most pronounced. You should adjust the belt to fit snugly while you are in a sitting position and be sure that the sensor belt is neither too tight nor too loose.

Q: How long should the recognition stage take?
A: The recognition stage should not last longer than two minutes. If it takes longer than two minutes, try repositioning your sensor and relax and breathe normally.

Q: What is the STAT button?
A: The STAT (statistics) button helps you assess your performance in the prior RESPeRATE sessions. You can examine the data from all previous sessions, from the last 10 sessions or from the last session alone. Please refer to the User Manual for specific details.

Q: How long should it take me to start breathing under ten breaths per minute?
A: There is no set amount of time to slow your breathing to under ten breaths per minute. It all depends on your body's own individual needs. Just follow the sound patterns as best you can and the RESPeRATE device will guide you to the slowest breathing rate that is right for you during that session.

Q: What happens if I can't slow my breathing to follow the device?
A: Don't try to force yourself. If you are having trouble following the device’s pace, simply breathe normally. Within one minute, RESPeRATE will automatically readjust itself to your breathing rate and pattern and begin gradually slowing your breathing down again. The readjustment and slowing process will continue until you reach the breathing pattern most comfortable and beneficial for you.

Q: Am I supposed to lengthen my exhalation period when conducting the breathing exercises?
A: All you have to do is synchronize your breathing to the inhale and exhale tones created by the device. RESPeRATE will automatically prolong your exhalation period in the best way for you. If for some reason you have difficulty following the melody, breathe normally and RESPeRATE will automatically readjust itself to your natural breathing and start the slowing process again.

Q: How often should I use RESPeRATE?
A: Your goal for each week should be to achieve 45 minutes of effective exercise time (The number of minutes spent breathing under ten breaths per minute). We recommend using the RESPeRATE for 15 minutes at a time, at least 3-4 times per week. Additional use has been shown to provide additional blood pressure reductions, and there is no danger of using the device too much.

Q: How do I know if I am doing the exercise properly?
A: When your perform the exercise properly, you can actually see the decrease in your breathing rate displayed on the device's screen. You can also press the “Current Effective Exercise" button on the top left of the device at any time to check how many “effective minutes” (The number of minutes spent breathing under ten breaths per minute) you have acquired within the session.

Q: What is the meaning of the number displayed on the screen when the device is turned on?
A: When the device is turned on, your accumulated effective exercise time from the past seven days is displayed. (“Effective Exercise” refers to the time during which you breath under ten breaths per minute.)

Q: How do I change the duration of the session of the RESPeRATE device?
A: The default duration for each session is 15 minutes. To change this default time, simply hold down the Exercise Time button (located in the center of the keypad default) until the display blinks. Use the Up or Down buttons on the device to adjust the default time. For more information on changing the settings of the RESPeRATE device, please consult the User Manual.

Q: How long before I will see results?
A: In our clinical trials, most patients saw results after just three-four weeks of treatment. The full results should appear within eight weeks of treatment.

Q: Whom should I contact for help with my device?
A: Our Customer Service department is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM ET. You can also contact us for help with your device anytime via email at support@msobiz.com
